As Amber the Ambulance takes care of the ills that beset the many cars, trucks, and heavy construction equipment who inhabit Car Town, she introduces two- to five-year-olds, she demystifies visits to doctors and hospitals, introduces young viewers to basic medical practices, and introduces some basic health principles. From bumped heads to sunburn, from allergies to skinned knees…well…fenders, Amber treats them all, demonstrating such medical room practices and devices as thermometers, vitamin therapy, sunburn ointment, and many others. Young children who watch this show should come away with a much clearer understanding of some basic principles of good health (e.g., don’t eat food you find lying on the ground; don’t spent too long in the sun without protection), and with a better idea of what to expect when they visit a doctor or nurse.
