Meet Darwin and Newts, New Zealand children who love to explore the natural world around them, and who never tire of asking “why” and “how,” or of imagining creative ways to answer such questions. A STEM (science/technology/ engineering/mathematics) based series aimed at 3 – 8-year-olds, Darwin and Newts encourages viewers to observe their world carefully and to ask basic questions about what they see. How do birds fly? Why do some things float and others sink? Why does the moon seem to change shape? What is the connection between seeds and plants? How are colors formed? In each 11-minute episode Darwin, Newt, and their friends – Heni, Wapti the deer, Burpee the frog, Kea the parrot, and many others – tackle such questions in ways designed both to inform viewers about the natural world and to encourage them to engage in their own backyard experiments. The series offers an entertaining introduction to early scientific principles and to the worders of nature.
